10 Tips On How To Raise Healthy Kids

As a parent, you want what is best for your children. You want them to be healthy and happy. But how do you ensure that they are getting the nutrients they need and that they are staying active?

Technology has made it easier than ever to be sedentary. Kids are spending more time than ever in front of screens, whether it is a television, computer, or phone. According to a report from the Kaiser Family Foundation, kids between the ages of 8 and 18 spend an average of 7 hours and 38 minutes using entertainment media each day. That is more than 53 hours each week!

It is important to find a balance between letting your kids have some screen time and making sure they are getting enough physical activity. Below are ten tips to help you raise healthy kids:

1. Make sure they are eating breakfast

The most important meal of the day is breakfast. It sets the tone for the rest of the day and gives them the energy they need to learn and grow.

2. Encourage them to eat fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that are essential for good health. Make sure your kids are eating a variety of both every day.

3. Limit their screen time

Too much time spent in front of screens can lead to obesity, poor sleep, and other health problems. Try to limit their screen time to no more than 2 hours a day.

4. Get them moving

Encourage your kids to be active every day. This can include playing outside, going for a walk or bike ride, or signing up for a sport.

5. Teach them about portion control

You don’t want your kids to overeat, but you also don’t want them to undereat. Teach them about portion control so they can learn to eat the right amount of food.

6. Make sure they are drinking enough water

Water is essential for good health so consider investing in a water filtration system. Make sure your kids are drinking plenty of clean water every day, especially during hot weather or when they are exercising.

7. Encourage them to try new foods

Just because your kids don’t like broccoli doesn’t mean they won’t like it if they try it again. Try it again in a different recipe.  Encourage them to try new foods, and they may be surprised at what they like.

8. Don’t use food as a reward

Using food as a reward can create unhealthy associations with certain foods. Instead, try to praise your kids for their good behavior.

9. Model healthy habits

Your kids are more likely to eat healthy if they see you eating healthy. If you are active, spending time intentionally moving, your children will notice.  Model healthy habits for them, and they will be more likely to follow suit. That doesn’t just apply to food, as you can do it with anything else, too. Daniel Lerner and David Lerner Associates could even help you model healthy financial habits for your kids.

10. Have regular family meals

Family meals are a great time to bond with your kids and teach them about healthy eating. Try to have at least one family meal together each day.

There you go!

Following these tips will help you raise healthy kids. By teaching them about healthy eating and encouraging them to be active, you can help them develop into healthy adults.
