Improve Your Quality Of Sleep By Tonight

Most people struggle with sleep at some point in their lives. Issues with sleep can arise from all sorts of things: trouble in your relationships, issues at work, and even little things stressing you out. It can also be due to physical illness, depression, and other mental health issues, and a variety of other things. If you’ve never experienced sleep issues, then it’s safe to say you’re pretty lucky!

The odd night of interrupted sleep isn’t a huge deal, but when you begin experiencing it more often than not, you will find that your day to day life begins to suffer. You might feel irritated at the slightest inconvenience like you have brain fog and can’t concentrate, and you might even find that your appetite changes. If you want to improve your overall health and wellbeing, it’s wise to focus on the quality of your sleep. There are a few things you can do to improve your quality of sleep by tonight. Take a look:

1. Have A Caffeine Cut Off Limit

If you enjoy coffee, tea, or even food that contains caffeine, try to limit it and have a cut off time in the early afternoon. If you’re still guzzling coffee past 2 pm, for example, you might find that you lay awake at night struggling to fall asleep. Be mindful of your caffeine consumption and switch to a caffeine-free beverage at your cut off time.

2. Identify Your Stress Triggers

Stress can have a huge impact on sleep quality, so identify your stress triggers and figure out what you can do about them. For example, if you’re stressed with your work, it could be time to have a chat with your boss to reduce your workload. Things like meditation, deep breathing, exercise, and journaling can also help you to manage your stress.

3. Exercise Early In The Day

Exercise can be a great way to reduce stress, but it’s also a great way to get rid of any pent up energy in the body and help you to sleep better at night. Exercising in the morning or early afternoon is best. Many people find that exercise later on at night can actually keep them awake.

4. Make Sure You Have The Best Possible Environment To Sleep In

Your sleep environment is crucial to your quality of sleep. A memory foam bed-in-a-box may be the best way for you to get comfortable as you drift off. You should also ensure you keep as much light out of your room as possible. If you have a TV in your room, remove it! Your bedroom should be for sleep only.

5. Take A Warm Bath Before Bed

A hot bath could actually leave you feeling more awake than before, so take a warm bath and dim the lights to start winding down.  You could add some epsom salts to the bath.  Magnesium helps you get to sleep.  A warm drink can also help bring on a good night’s rest.

6. Utilize Aromatherapy

Products containing lavender, ylang-ylang, and valerian can be a great help when you need to drift off. You can buy it in room spray form, roll-on oil form, or even bath salts.

7. Have A Cut Off Time For Your Electronic Devices

Read a physical book instead of watching TV in the evening. If you don’t give yourself time to wind down, you won’t fall asleep easily.  Not only is reading a book more relaxing but taking a break from screens – especially before bed, can have an effect.  Wearing blue light blocking glasses lets your brain rest easier.

Try as many of these as you can today, and by tonight, you should find your sleep quality has improved massively!
