While this may be 5th in a series, we had no problem jumping right in and enjoying the story. Now, we want to read more of The Knights of Arrethtrae series. I figured my son (6 years old) would love this. What boy doesn’t love stories of knights and action and adventure. I wasn’t sure how much his older sisters would enjoy it. They all loved it! We read this as a family read aloud. Everytime our time for the day was up, there were pleas for just one more chapter.
Though the story is a pretty obvious allegory, that doesn’t detract from the story at all. We enjoy allegorical stories, but often that can “dumb down” the story to make things fit that theme. The storyline was wonderful with the allegorical elements subtle undercurrents throughout. Looking forward to reading more from this series and the Kingdom series.
