The Velveteen Bible Review

The Velveteen Bible is a keepsake Bible put out by Tommy Nelson. The translation is New King James Version.  The Bible is small, 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ (approx.)

The Bible has flocking on both the decorative box and the cover of the hardback Bible itself.  There are three sets of illustrations found in the pages.  These are beautiful water colors of animals.  Little ones will enjoy the fuzzy places on the cover and the bright colors inside.  The pages and type are typical for adult Bibles; they are very thin with small, plain font.  This does not seem to be a good fit for the target audience of this particular Bible.  I had thought my youngest daughter (3 year old) would like this.  The size is nice and it is a translation we do not have.  I will not however, let this daughter use this Bible.  Based upon the actual pages, it is a better fit for my 10 year old daughter.  She is not thrilled with the flocking or pictures (animals being personified).  We do not like the ‘Bibles’ that are actually Bible stories and not complete Scripture.  This is complete Scripture, just not in a durable enough book for the little hands this is intended for.  There are pages in the front for geneological information ie. names and birthdates of parents, siblings and grandparents.  This might be nice if you like to maintain these things, but keep protected ( it does come with a matching box).  I like to see my children using their Bibles and growing their relationship with the Lord.
