I love that the add-on to the title is (…and curious grown-ups!) That is definitely me. I knew nothing about the behind the scenes of webpages or blogs until I started writing this one. I still don’t know much. The little bit I can do I owe solely to the afternoon I spent with my eldest daughters viewing this DVD.
The DVD is broken down into easy segments taking you from the very beginning of creating a file to place graphics in to a completed web page. The DVD does not include a lesson in taking your page on-line but this will be covered in a future volume. Mr. Richardson is a middle school teacher. His patient friendly manner is great in helping us feel as though we can do this. Each step is done with two students on screen. They asked the questions you might have and became excited when we met with success. Though they might sound scripted, we appreciated the feel it gave it to our ‘class’.
Web Design for Kids is for someone who is a beginner at HTML. Someone with some proficiency may find these lessons tedious. I never felt that I was being talked down to and my children–ages 8 and 6 were able to follow along and understand easily. We did learn that my girls are not really interested in making their own webpages. Good to know before any other program for further knowledge is purchased. I however love what I have learned. In true homeschool fashion, I learned enough to know how to search out more information to teach myself some more advance tricks. I had been intimidated by the long list of code when looking at my blog template. I now have enough confidence to play with things a bit, understanding just enough to tweak things more to my liking.
