Don’t Let Insecurity Hold You Back This Summer

The summer is a fantastic time of year, a chance to get outdoors, have fun and make memories with family and friends. However, the warmer months can also bring feelings of self-consciousness about your body. After all, skimpy summer clothes and swimwear might have you feeling like all of your insecurities are on show. However, there is no need to worry, with the right choices you will be feeling fabulous all summer long.  Here are some ideas for going about it!

Family Vacation Beach

Get toned and fit

This is not just about weight.  If you’re conscious of your weight, losing a few pounds or just toning up is a good move.  Being able to keep up with your busy family is even more of a reason than looking good in a two-piece.  Avoid the crazy and unhealthy crash diets, just eat healthily and move more and by the time the summer rolls around you’ll have made a noticeable difference. Focus on eating a clean diet and up your exercise routine. If you have a particular area that you’re conscious of, you could target your exercise plan to this. If you’re not overweight, don’t forfeit the gym. Toning your muscles and gaining a little definition as well as improving your shape will surely have you feeling more confident when you’re by the pool, on a trail, or at the beach!

Find the right swimwear

The right swimwear can be the difference between feeling confident and feeling self-conscious. It doesn’t matter what shape or size you are, the right pieces will have you looking and feeling fantastic. Don’t just follow trends blindly, find the right pieces for your specific shape. For example, if you’re bigger busted then you might want to choose a top with underwiring since it will give you support and make you feel less like you’re about to spill out! If you are conscious of your thighs or behind, don’t just try hiding away- find a cute swimsuit with a skirt bottom or go with a swimdress.  A tankini or one-piece suit would work well if you want to hide your stomach and don’t forget there are all kinds of beach coverups out there that can give you that bit of added confidence.

Bronze up

It’s common knowledge that having a tan can make you feel fantastic, with lots of people reporting feeling slimmer and more confident when they’re bronzed. If you’re very pale, it’s sure to make you look a little healthier when you are showing more skin. Always be sure to tan safely, apply sunscreen and build it up gradually to avoid burning. There are some great natural options that avoid controversial ingredients while still protecting your skin.  Or go with a faux tan if you won’t be doing any swimming! Tanning lotions, wipes, and mousses can all give you a realistic bronzed glow.

Are you working on getting yourself ready for the summer?  Your family wants to remember you playing with them and joining in on the activities – not always watching from the sidelines of life. When your children are grown and the photos of past years are looked at, will you be in them or noticeably missing?
