Are you familiar with the Homemaker’s Mentor? A few years ago, I had a limited membership and also purchased some specific lessons. It was wonderful to have a bit of guidance in this homemaking journey. I was learning and doing things that my mother and grandmother’s had done while taking advantage of the tools available to me. I was sad when the women behind it needed to retire from it. Their families and the Lord were needing them elsewhere. I understood, but I missed it.
When I learned that the family behind Homeschool Freebie of the Day was purchasing the Homemaker’s Mentor, I was thrilled! The formatting and bundling the collections and placing them on a CD meant I can still have these great helps. I can direct other women to them and share them with my daughters. I am so, so glad the Erskine family has brought back the Homemaker’s Mentor!!
Available for a limited time only (only 500 copies made, when they are gone, they are gone!), if you have any desire to learn or add to your homemaking skills, you need the Homemaker’s Mentor Vol. 1 CD. Through Oct. 18th, the price is reduced – only $37. Afterwards, and until the copies are all sold, the price will be $47. ***I have two copies to giveaway – see the Rafflecopter below.***
What exactly will you find on this CD? There are 33 file folders filled with pdfs. Some of these are just a few pages (3-5) while others are lengthier (10-20 pages) – a little bit of background or lesson-type information followed by recipes, patterns or directions.
The individual books cover a range of topics. There is useful information for every room in your house – and outside, too. This time of year sees us preparing for winter and keeping our home warm. The booklet Fall/Winter Home has a checklist for winter preparations. From chimney inspections to wood stove painting to spring bulb planting, many of the things we do (or should do) are in this book. There are also delicious pumpkin recipes (we’ll be trying a few once we process the pumpkins we picked up at the apple orchard), information on making jerky (which is covered fully with many recipes in another one of these great booklets), defrosting your freezer (I need to do this desperately!) and how-to make a draft dodger. We heat with a wood stove and depend upon the air flow throughout the house to spread the warmth. Where we don’t want the heat however is in our walk-in pantry. We’ll be putting our draft dodger at this door. I hope it well help to keep mice out as well (probably wishful thinking, but a girl can dream, right?).
Recipes (for everything you can think of), quilting, knitting, sewing — all the home-y things you expect in a resource like this — are included. What I was surprised to find – “A Vision of Order”. This wonderful file has what you need to organize your daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal tasks. This even includes the files (ready to “type-it-in” with Adobe) for printable cards or pages for a binder.
Speaking of binders, I am printing many of these files and placing them in a homemaking binder. Some of these are things for me to do (the fall/winter prep mentioned above) and others are actual lessons for my girls to work on. We are getting ready to start the Sugar & Spice unit studies. These bring in math, vocabulary and history with various spices as the theme. Up first is the Ginger unit, complete with a recipe for Gingerbread Cake (a wheat-free recipe is included, too!).
There are so many files, I’ve barely skimmed the surface. Watch for future posts featuring our projects from this great collection. I’m also looking forward to Volume 2. No word from the Erskine family on it’s release, but with this collection titled Volume 1, I sure hope another is coming. Many other bloggers are also featuring the Homemaker’s Mentor, follow the links to see their finds and favorites.
