Homeschool Mom’s Bible from Zondervan a Schoolhouse Crew Review

Before sharing my thoughts on the Homeschool Mom’s Bible published by Zondervan, I want to share what the Lord has placed on my heart concerning the Bible — the most important book anyone can read.

As a Christian, I refer to the Bible often.  It is the “how-to” manual for life.  There is not any question I might have that the answer is not found there.  It may take some leading by the Holy Spirit to make it clearer for me, but all the answers are there.  When facing a tough situation, the answer is there.  I find help for every situation.  As I read daily, I am fed.  I am getting just what I need.

As a mom, I have particular needs as I read in my Bible daily.  Those needs might not be the same every day, but they are similar from mom to mom.  We all worry about our children.  Are we guiding them as the Lord requires of us?  Are we taking care of our husband’s and homes as we ought?  We look for strength for our daily requirements.  In the words – God’s words – we find what we seek and more.  We are comforted and encouraged.  No matter how busy we are, it’s important not to neglect this time in the Word.  It doesn’t need to be first thing in the morning, just be sure to make the time.

As a homeschool mom, I have cares and concerns that other women may not have.  The Word still has all the answers.  It may take a bit more leading to see how a particular scripture applies to a need, but always, the answers are there.  Within the pages of the Homeschool Mom’s Bible is the addition of another homeschool mom’s voice encouraging us in our journey.

Spread throughout the pages of God’s Word are single page devotionals written by Janet Tatman.  She is a veteran homeschool mom offering words of encouragement and gentle guidance.  You may be familiar with her writings as the author of the Daily Focus devotionals from Alpha Omega Publications.

The devotional pages are spread throughout the pages of the Bible – 365 pages in addition to the whole of Scripture.  Each page is headed by the date: July 1, September 22, October 4, etc. and ordered chronologically.  January’s pages are found in Genesis, July is in the Psalms and December in Revelation.

Below a short, catchy title is the scripture used a the basis of the devotional.  The devotionals themselves cover a variety of topics from the perspective of a homeschool mom.  “To Please or Not to Please” addresses who is first on our ‘to please’ list.  “No Worthless Thing” uses words from Ephesians and Psalms to remind us that believers are not continue our lives as they were before.  After these inspiring and encouraging words is a prayer.  The last thing on these special pages is the direction to the page where the next day’s reading is found.

The Homeschool Mom’s Bible contains the full text of either the King James Version or the New International Version.  There is a topical index found in the back to aid in making the most of this manual for life.  The foreword, written by Vickie Farris, author and wife to Dr. Michael Farris, HSLDA founder, ends with “Trust me, the laundry can wait 15 minutes more. . .”  This Bible is the perfect package to make the most of those precious minutes.

The Homeschool Mom’s Bible is available in various bindings, hardcover with a scrapbook-inspired design (that’s what I have- $34.99), Italian Duo-Tone – a pretty blue with silver edged pages ($49.99), and even a digital version (ePub format $14.99).  The above links are for KJV.  You can find NIV in any of those options as well.
