Hope for the Busy Mom ~ Putting on the Spirit by Katie Hornor {Review and Giveaway}

All moms are busy, it’s just part of the job description, right?  As busy as we are, we know some things *should* be done, should be as important as feeding our family or washing their clothes.  Too often though — at least for me, the one thing that should be most important is left out.  Even more important than the laundry and meals is my time in the Word, spent with the Lord.  Without this time, I am definitely not functioning well.

I’ve been finding a wonderful way to not just squeeze in some Bible time, but to have meaningful Bible time.  Putting on the Spirit: 10 Minute Devotions for Busy Moms by Katie Hornor has been making a huge difference in my days (especially the busy ones!).  Those busy days are often the ones when we are most faced with difficulties.  Being prepared makes a big difference in how I handle them.  Instead of being frustrated or throwing in the towel, I find I have more patience and can think more clearly.  The Lord is with me and I can feel it – because I made time for Him.

Rather than watching the clock on busy days (am I the only one who has their “to-do” list running in the background?), I have been enjoying and making the most of those minutes set aside.  Katie has written this 28 day devotional to study the Fruit of the Spirit of Galatians 5 and relate that to our lives as mothers.  With other scripture referenced, clear direction for reflection or prayer, I am not at a loss as to what to do after I read.

While each day’s assignment is short, it is not shallow.  The companion workbook (available free at Paradise Praises) offers a place to record your thoughts as you read and answers to questions.  I really appreciate that this devotional is a guide for our own study.  The verses are provided, the author’s thoughts on how this applies to a mom’s life are there, but what you are doing, is making this your own.  This is a guide to help you focus and think and apply it for you in your life.

For this introductory week, you can get the Kindle version for only 99¢ (through December 13th).  The regular price is $4.99.  The companion workbook is free.  The devotional and workbook are also available in Spanish.
