Salad season has begun! A yummy #giveaway!

How is your salad dressed?  Whether your salad is wild greens or fresh from your garden or straight from the produce department, the finishing touch should be a great salad dressing.  I am excited to introduce you to the best dressings I know — Hootie Doot.

Hootie Doot (and all of the other ‘Doots) are a great choice for your best dressed salads, wonderful as a marinade and excellent in many recipes.  The dressings are hand made, bottled with care, shrink wrapped to avoid tampering and are as good as grandma made.  I can attest to that last one with certainty, they are made by my grandmother.  The “secret family recipe” came into our family when my grandfather, Teed married my grandmother in 1997.  When my grandparents decided to start selling Hootie Doot, they started developing variations.  You can read their full story on the website.  That was fun, being on the tasting end of things!  They have since added four variations to the Doot Family.

  • HOOTIE DOOT
The original distinctive recipe used primarily for your Best Dressed Salads, put on enough, but not too much, for a perfect finish.
  • DILLY DOOT
An “herbal” variation of our original recipe for persons who like dill on their salads. A twist on our secret recipe, this dressing is perfectly balanced, and incredibly flavored.
  • FRUITIE DOOT
A “berry” good addition to our family and very tasty served with fruit. This is a tropical style dressing that’s fast becoming a home style favorite.
  • HOOSIER DOOT
The addition of “red peppers” declares this a sure fire winner to those who like to titillate the palate. Nothing chases away the chill and warms the soul like this chef prepared, seasoned, and ready to serve dressing with a little kick.
  • LA DOOT
A delightful French style dressing , like no other on the market. Good greens, flavored by this delicate dressing , can be served along side any meat or vegetarian course to top off a satisfying meal.

Based in Brown County, Indiana they have shipped their dressings all across the country.  In addition to using the dressings on your favorite salad, they are great as a marinade or straight out of the bottle as a dip.  Friends and family have shared some of their own uses as well.  You can see these on the website — there is even a handy link to print them off in pdf form.

I love all the ‘Doots for various uses. Hootie Doot is the one I use most for salads or marinading chicken breasts. I have used Dilly Doot when baking both cod and salmon. Fruitie Doot is great as a dip with fruit — my family especially likes it with berries. I am working on a recipe using Hoosier Doot. I hope to get some pictures next time I make it so I can share that here. My favorite recipe uses la Doot, I love this on celery.

La Doot Cheese Spread
4 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/2-3/4 C la Doot dressing
5 slices crispy bacon, crumbled

Combine all ingredients, adding la Doot to taste.  Use as a sandwich spread, filling for celery sticks or a dip with crackers or veggies.

I would love for all of you to have some ‘Doot, but since that is not feasible I can give you the chance to win a pack of 4 bottles (6 oz size) of your choice of ‘Doot dressings. Entry is easy through the Rafflecopter widget below. Entries will be collected through May 3 (my mama’s birthday) and the winner announced Friday, May 4th.
