Thanks to the current COVID-19 pandemic, there’s an extremely high chance that you, like many other people, are currently stuck at home. We all understand the importance of self-isolation and social distancing right now for the safety of ourselves and those around us, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not an extremely frustrating time, especially for the kinds of people who generally love to get out into the world. It can be enough to give you some serious cabin fever. However, that’s not the way that it has to be. Here are just a few things that you can do in order to stay sane while stuck at home.
Find a new hobby
If you’re stuck at home and you’re practically bouncing off the walls, it’s probably because you’ve finally hit your limit of how much Netflix you can watch in a day and you’re seriously bored. So why not find something a little more productive to do with your time? Why not start some kind of art project? Or maybe you could start doing more cooking. This nutter butter recipe is a great place to start if you want to try improving your culinary skills. Plus, it gives you a tasty treat to enjoy while you’re stuck at home.
Meditate
This can be a seriously stressful time for many of us and it can be doubly frustrating because many of the things that a lot of us might do to feel better like seeing friends or going to different places aren’t really available right now. But there are still ways that you can reduce your stress levels. One of the best things that you can try is meditation. It gives you a chance to slow everything down and just relax for a while rather than feeling like you have to be constantly running around.
Exercise
This does not mean ordering a bunch of exercise equipment or trying to find a gym. There are many options for simple workouts found on YouTube and even Amazon Prime. If you are able, take a walk. We walk our neighborhood earlier in the morning or in the evening – a bit later. We have hiked trails at our nearby state park and made an obstacle course in our backyard. Getting outside and moving (not necessarily as the same activity) should be things we are doing everyday. Get creative and have fun with this while you have more time on your hands.
Learn to do nothing
In fact, the idea that we should all be running around being as productive as possible during this period is one that is likely to leave a lot of people feeling seriously stressed and frustrated. Well, the truth is that you don’t really need to. This is an incredibly difficult time that we’re all going through right now and there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to deal with it by simply putting everything to one side for a while and just doing nothing. Why not just spend the day in bed every so often? It’s not like a lot of us have much better to do!
As frustrating as being stuck at home can be, we all need to remember why it is that it’s happening in the first place. Social distancing and self-isolation are incredibly important and those rules are in place for a very good reason. Sure, it’s hardly ideal and things can be extremely scary right now, but the truth is that it’s not going to last forever. There will come a time when this all seems like a bad memory. Right now, it’s just a matter of doing whatever we can to make the best of it. Who knows, you may decide to keep up with some of these newfound activities.
