When I hear the brand, Melissa and Doug, I picture puzzles and toys. Bright, colorful, sturdy, wood, educational and well-made are the words that come to mind. We have many great toys from Melissa and Doug that are well-loved and holding up well to all that “love”.
The latest addition to our collection of Melissa and Doug is unlike anything I have seen from them before. It is still colorful, sturdy, well-made, fun and educational. It is not wooden (except for some small supporting pieces) but made of metal. The base, connector and die are wood. The metal rods are brightly colored at the ends. The object is to “suspend” those colorful rods.
Everyone (and I do mean everyone from the just-turned-three-year-old to the mumble-mumble-year-old Daddy) gathered round the dining room table one recent snowy afternoon. The game comes with instructions for a few variations for play. Of course we tried them all and made up some of our own.
Simple and easy to understand, but challenging to play. Not in a frustrating way, but challenging in a skill building way. It’s all about balance. Depending upon the variation, you choose the color-tipped rod to add to the growing “sculpture”.
You can play by teams and see who can get one of each color placed first. You can let everyone take turns and try to get every piece suspended. You can play alone. This is a wonderful, open-ended game. The kind of game that grows with your abilities. The kind of game that can be played just for fun. The kind of game that is different each time you play.
You can buy Suspend for $16.99 at Melissa and Doug. A special going on right now will get you an adorable stuffed puppy Free with a purchase of $50 (or more). Get free shipping for a $60 (or more) purchase using code FREESHIPSIXTY
Thanks Melissa & Doug for a complementary Suspend Family Game. I have shared my own opinion and received no monetary compensation.
