Three Days That Changed the World and 3 Selections from Pure Flix to Learn More

No matter if or how your family celebrates Resurrection (or Easter) Sunday, learning about it as a family is a good thing.  There are a number of resources available to go as deep into this historic event as you want to.  Scripture is always a great place to start.  There are books designed to appeal to a variety of ages.  One of our family’s favorite ways of learning is with video.

Three Days That Changed the World

Three Days That Changed the World – a statement with so much meaning and truth.  That’s why the title caught my eye as I was perusing all the titles available on Pure Flix relevant to the upcoming Easter/Resurrection holiday.  There are other titles I know we will come back to, but I wanted something that we could fit into school time with our middle and high schoolers.  The movie is told from three different points of view.  Rob, a father reminiscing about time with his father as he continues traditions with his children.  The second point-of-view is documentary-style with a feel of Drive Thru History – a host walking through historical places, talking to the camera.  The third is scenes as though you are there at that time in history.  The story was told in a relatable way as the child, now a parent himself, is looking at his own relationship with Christ.

We enjoyed it for what it is.  It lead to some interesting conversations about how others celebrate this holiday.  It also lead to conversations about how dated the movie felt.  When we have watched The Passion of the Christ, we’ll discuss during our school time how the two movies came out around the same time yet took very different approaches to the topic of the Resurrection.

The Passion of the Christ

We watched, as a family (with extended family), The Passion of the Christ when it was released in 2004.  Our children were not old enough (the oldest was not yet 4) to even remember any of it, even if they had been awake while it was on.  While it is available on Pure Flix (through 19 April 2022) we will be watching it.  We can read the verses that talk about the beating and suffering, we know in our heads that “He was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; by His wounds we are healed.” Isaiah 53  Seeing it depicted, even in a movie, gives it even more meaning.  This is not a movie to viewed lightly.  You will know best how your children will be affected.

There are many options for all ages to choose from on Pure Flix when it comes to Easter films.  For the younger children, there are two VeggieTales movies.  We have been lifelong fans of VeggieTales.  If your younger children do not know Bob & Larry, introduce them!  You will find animated selections, documentary-style, and movies that you put right in the middle of the events.

The Passion: A Brickfilm

Our family enjoys LEGO in any form.  We will be watching both of the Brickfilm movies associated with the death and resurrection of Christ available on Pure Flix.  They are around 30 minutes or so in length so they will fit into our routine for weeknights over the next week or so.  These are recommended for ages 5-10.  Our children are 12 and older – nearly all of them join in when we watch a Brickfilm movie.  Be sure to check out the other ones available on Pure Flix.
