If you are familiar with Adventures in Odyssey, then you are probably familiar with the Imagination Station. This new book series is based on the popular radio series. Focus on the Family presents the Imagination Station; book 1 is Voyage with the Vikings by Marianne Hering and Paul McCusker.
Cousins Beth and Patrick have a quest in Greenland, in the year 1000. From the first chapter describing the Imagination Station to the fifteenth chapter where we find another quest, my children were enthralled. This book was a hit with all ages, boys and girls alike. In the midst of the action were lessons in character and history. This reminds of the Magic Treehouse series–only better. I often supplement our history or geography studies with books from that series–reading aloud and editing heavily the magic and other parts that don’t align with our beliefs. The children and I were thrilled to read an adventure every bit as fun and educational with prominent, strong Christian values. We look forward to reading more of this series.
Upcoming titles are Attack at the Arena, Peril in the Palace, Revenge of the Red Knight, and Giant Trouble. These are easy to read chapter books. They are listed as reading level 1.7 according to Flesch-Kincaid. They are not dumbed down, but are interesting for all ages to read (I am well over elementary age <grin> and I enjoyed reading this book).
