Home is where the heart is – so the saying goes. We want our children to always be comfortable at home. Home should be the safe space, “their” place, where they will always be loved.
Living in a small home can ramp up the tension, especially when we have children running around! There is not enough room to keep everyone’s things tidy. It may be hard to find a quiet space to catch your breath. If you are feeling that tension, it’s time to have a change of perspective! Instead of feeling like you are hemmed in, it’s time to help you and your children make the most of your home space.
Choose the Right Space
Logically, the best place to begin is to see if you are actually living in a space that you can feasibly pay for. You can always find an apartment for sale within your budget, but if you are happy with the home you are living in, you may also want to consider extending it. Of course, this may not be within your budget, but if you really want to help your children feel more at home, this could be a good option.
Keep Fit
If your children are spending a lot of time at home whether you are homeschooling or not, keeping fit is one of those fun things that you can do with your kids. Young kids will always want to run around, and it’s important that we keep encouraging this as they get older. There will come a time when they will just want to sit down all day, every day, but if we provide that foundation of fitness, even if it’s just by playing with them, this will do wonders for their health and happiness.
Have a “Creative Corner”
If you are living in a very cramped space, a creative corner can be perfect for a number of reasons. Firstly, it keeps the children occupied, but a creative corner is also something that your kids will keep going back to. They will associate that corner with an abundance of projects that keeps their happiness levels up! Finally, a creative corner will also do wonders for your peace of mind. Because if you can’t bear the idea of the kids drawing and painting on the kitchen table, setting up a little creative corner for them with their own table and everything they need to make a mess means that it’s contained! Of course, if they like to be messy, you should make sure the creative corner is covered in tarpaulin!
Make the Most of the Outside
Even if you’ve got a cramped space, the garden is the ideal opportunity to get your kids out and really enjoy the great outdoors. So many children prefer to stay in and play on their consoles, but you have to remember that if your children are going to get a head start in life, you need to provide them with as many different options to express themselves as possible. You could start by helping them grow their first plants, but you could also start to grow vegetables if you have the space. Additionally, we have to remember the benefits of actually being outside. Fresh air is going to help your children feel better in themselves, but getting daylight first thing in the morning and just before bedtime will help their circadian rhythms and have an amazing impact on their sleep!
