Why An Increasing Number Of People Are Moving Away From Traditional Education

If you’ve been on any kind of social media these days, you will notice that there are so many people who are moving away from traditional education both for themselves and their kids. Now, of course social media isn’t always an accurate representation of life, but if you look it up, it’s true. An increasing number of people are moving away from the traditional education that is offered and into homeschooling or other methods of education. But, why is this happening? Let’s have a look.

Rigid Structure Not Supporting All Students

One of the most common reasons that people are pulling themselves and their children out of traditional education is because the rigid structure of schools has not been changed in decades, and no longer suits the majority of children and adults. Of course there has to be structure and routine in schools, but it has now become more like a dictatorship in many schools as teachers seem to want their students to act like adults, even when they are not. Kids are being labeled for being kids, and punished for not behaving the way they are expected to, whether the standards are reasonable or not.

Debt Problems Later In Life

When it comes to higher education and further education, one of the biggest things putting people off getting involved with this is the debt that is involved. It costs so much to become educated beyond mandatory education, and as such people choose not to bother and to go a different route. It’s for this reason that people like Alex Kleyner are so heavily involved with helping those in debt due to education, ensuring that they are not paying off debt for the rest of their lives simply for wanting an education. Even then, for some people it’s still not worth it.

Low Quality Teachers Leading To Low Quality Education

Finally, there has been a significant lack in people training to be teachers lately. Without teachers, the workload for existing ones increases tenfold. That is simply impossible and existing teachers are feeling the strain and pressure. Unfortunately, many people think that teaching is just a nine till four job. This is not the case and teachers can often be found staying behind prepping for the next day and working on assessments and testing that is mandatory these days.

The issue is, low quality teachers lead to low quality education and then you have a generation of kids who have learned what they know from worksheets. This is not how it should be, there should be a teacher speaking to students and teaching them without screens and worksheets getting in the way.

Hopefully you found this article helpful and it gave you some insight into why there are increasing numbers of people moving away from traditional education. While there are plenty of reasons to avoid this, especially in favor of home ed or home tutoring services, there are also some positives. Not every educational setting will work for each individual child, that is why they are individual. If home schooling is an option then this is what parents and carers will offer.
