We’ve been spending more time with this book, but haven’t come close to trying half the recipes. Not because the recipes are difficult or require hard to find ingredients. The recipes have been explained so clearly, my girls have done a lot of the work. The ingredients have been easy to find, too. Many call for fresh produce, rice, beans and common cuts of meat/fish. Real food, good food.
We have been using Not Just Tacos A Journey Into the World of Authentic Latin American Cuisine as our starting point for some fun geography studies. We’ve been picking and choosing from the various resources found at Homeschool Share and Upside Down Kids. This is definitely going to be an ongoing study, probably throughout the course of the year. As I’ve shared before, our favorite activity in studying various countries is to sample the tastes of that country.
With the delicious recipes in Not Just Tacos, we are doing more than sampling. Some of the recipes have become part of our regular menu plan. They are that good and that easy — not just for a special occasion. Although, they do add something great to a special occasion. We recently shared the Pico de Gallo at a family gathering – I tripled the recipe and brought virtually nothing home.
