Our family absolutely loves All About Learning Press. We have found their products to be effective, easy to use, and fun. I am an affiliate because we love them so much; I tell everyone about them. No affiliate links in this post due to being a TOS Crew Review.
I was thrilled to have the chance to check out their newest offering in the All About Reading line. We have enjoyed the readers that we have (they are beautiful!) and have been anticipating the release of the curriculum to accompany them.
My newly 6 year old son is at the perfect ability to utilize AAR Level 1 to the fullest. He knows his letters/sounds. He understands blending. He just needs some focused attention from me and something to keep him interested. All About Reading Level 1 supplies that well. Pictured here, Level 1 kit $99.95. This contains the Teacher’s Manual, the Student Packet (activity book, phonogram (sound) & word cards) and all three readers for this level. For additional students – at the same time or younger siblings, you will only need the Activity Book ($16.95) or Student Packet ($24.95). The difference being the cards–it is best to have each child’s separate as they review and master at their own pace.
We received the Deluxe Interactive Kit as well. These components are all available separately. If you are adding All About Reading on to your existing kit for All About Spelling, you will already have the letter tiles, magnets, and phonogram CD-Rom (add the Divider Cards and you have the Basic Interactive Kit $28.95). These are the minimum “extras” we find necessary to follow the curriculum. The Deluxe kit adds the Review Box, Tote Bag and sheet of Star stickers for your progress chart to the items in the Basic Interactive Kit. The Deluxe kit retails for $48.95.
My son and I have thoroughly enjoyed spending time together (no siblings allowed ;D). The lessons are short and easy for me to prepare for. When we have no distractions and he is motivated, we can complete many lessons at a time. On those days when he is just wanting to get-outside-already, a single lesson is short enough to not be tortuous for him. His favorite page from the activity book has been the one about “feeding the monster”. We keep him around and feed words from our current lessons to him.
My son asks to work on this daily. Best of all — he is reading! He loves reading “actual stories” in a “real book”. This has been the easiest child to help to learn to read. I attribute it fully to the All About Reading curriculum — it certainly has not been me. We are working steadily through the lessons, doing something every day. His older sisters are looking forward to the levels for their needs. I wish this had been around when I was starting out with my 11 year old. She has struggled so much. The approach to phonograms as well as the hands-on aspects would be perfect for her dyslexic challenges.
