We have absolutely loved this little book. What’s not to love? Beehive Reader 1 features beautiful illustrations that go along nicely with the story without giving away words for new readers. There are 10 short stories contained in the 160 pages. The pages are nicely colored and thick. The size is perfect for littler hands. The quality in the book itself lets you know this is not your typical reader. Our 7 yo DD claimed it for her own as soon as she saw it. She has enjoyed sitting and reading it, by herself or to anyone who will listen. This is truly a first for her.

If you aren’t using All About Spelling (and why aren’t you?) you will still enjoy using this reader. There are some other great features, too. Did you notice the underlining? I didn’t either until it was pointed out to me by the author. The line breaks and natural phrasing will help your beginning reader sound like a pro. The stories are enjoyable, too. This is not just a collection of words from a limited list trying to make sense. We’ve had some of those. They did not do anything to instill a love of reading. This reader has been everything I didn’t know I was looking for in a beginning reader.
Did you notice that 1 at the end of the title? That means there will be more! This summer, look for the Beehive Reader 1 to get a new name, new site (all-about-reading.com) and more.
