With Google Reader gone, it’s necessary to find something different to follow your favorite blogs. There are many options. If you use Blogger, you can still read those blogs from your Dashboard. You can subscribe by e-mail. You can set up a G-mail account just for this purpose to not overload your regular inbox.
I follow many blogs through Linky Followers. They have a reader page where you can click through to the blog to read posts. When you have your blog with Linky Followers, you have to manually update that you posted with the Title. Just because you may not see any new posts listed here, doesn’t mean there aren’t new posts. You’ll need to click through to the blog to check it out. It’s not what I think of as a reader — cannot read posts here, but for some it may be a good option.
I prefer a spot where I can see some of the content – so I know if it’s something I want to read then. There are so many blogs with great posts, but only so much time to try to keep up with them. Two popular sites to show a feed of posts for blogs you follow are Feedly and Bloglovin. I am finding I like Bloglovin because I get an e-mail daily. When something is right in front of me, it’s easy to just click over. I don’t always remember to go to the Feedly site to check for new things to read (lazy, I know).
Feedly is also not as intuitive to set up with what I want to read. The reading interface is nice – you can choose different layouts, etc. once you get the site connected.
Be sure to check out these options to see what is a good fit for you and your habits and the blogs you like to keep up with. Some of these options don’t work with all blog platforms, so your favorites may not be available through them. Bloglovin requires you to “claim” your blog (to customize the description, etc. and see stats). That is the main reader I am going to focus my efforts on as a blogger. (and the reason for this post – to “claim” my blog) Bloglovin is definitely user friendly – both to those blogging and those reading.
