I love getting magazines in the mail. I enjoy setting aside time in the afternoon and relaxing while reading. Often, an article or recipe catches my eye to save from the magazine. Sometimes, the whole magazine is kept — but only if it really special and chock full of great things in its pages. When I find a magazine with beautiful photos, Scripture, poetry, interesting articles and recipes I know it is a keeper! Creation Illustrated is one magazine that will be kept intact and at hand.
My children love looking at nature photos. The pages of Creation Illustrated are full of them. There are great articles as well that are always pointing to our Creator. I love seeing them pull out their Bibles and reading the referenced scripture from their own pages. I’ve enjoyed hearing new facts and information that they have gleaned from the pages. This is all just from the first section.
Each issue of Creation Illustrated has its features arranged into three sections – In Nature, In Scripture, and In Living. There are gorgeous photos throughout the magazine, but the articles in this first section seem to have more. The articles are often about the capturing of those images and how they illustrate something from scripture. Often, nature journals showcase animal and plant life exclusively. As a former geology major, I was thrilled to read in the pages of the Spring 2012 issue about Yellowstone National Park and the geology there.
The In Scripture section is where you will find the thought provoking articles that will have you digging into Scripture. Creation Illustrated is currently featuring a series going through each day of creation. The current issue (Spring 2012) is the third part for day 6. There are also highlights from articles in other publications (many are creation science) and stewardship tips.
The last section, In Living is where you will find recipes, a story for children, a youth photo contest (with prizes!) and an instructional guide. The guide has study questions for the articles and interesting activities. The recipes are centered around a theme – particular type of dish, featured ingredient, etc. Each recipe is printed as a recipe card so that you can clip it from the magazine. I believe the recipes are all vegan. I found it easy enough to substitute our preferred ingredients for the cupcakes (Fall 2011) that we tried.
