Our lives are overrun with stuff. When it comes to refining your life, you may have to start removing things. This could be about removing friends from your life, or it could be about practicing the right morning routine, or lifestyle choices that help you to be a more well-balanced person. Many people are now embracing the minimalist way of living. The idea that reducing your worldly possessions to a handful can provide a lot of clarity. When your mind can rest, you can be more productive, sleep better, and save so much time. But for those people who are considering doing it but only want to dip their toe into the world to see if it suits them, how can they practice living with less?

Declutter The Home
Decluttering is a very simple thing to do, but also incredibly satisfying. Your living space is a reflection of who you are. By decluttering it, you are taking the opportunity to look at every aspect of your home life and ask yourself if everything there is serving its purpose. You may have an abundance of furniture but if you are up for the challenge you can get rid of excess furniture which will open up a lot of space in your home. Decluttering gives you the opportunity to reorganize your life. And in a practical sense, this could mean choosing the right storage unit to temporarily house all of your furniture. When you take that opportunity to declutter the space you may think that everything just looks better without so much stuff hanging around. If you like the new look of your home, you can easily sell off your items and live in this new, open, and uncluttered space.
Carefully Choosing Clothes
They say we wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time. If there are so many clothes that we don’t use or we have an emotional attachment to them for some reason they are taking up a lot of space. One of the fundamental approaches to minimalist living is having a handful of clothes, like a capsule wardrobe. This means that if you go through your wardrobe and remove all of the unused clothes or look at what you haven’t worn in the last six months and throw it out, not only will it make choosing your clothes in the morning less stressful but it will reduce decision fatigue across the board. And this is a very common problem, we all have especially in this Instagram heavy world that we live in.
Own Fewer Devices
This is the big challenge. We all “need” our phone and our television. But we can only spend so much time sitting on the couch scrolling through news feeds while life is passing us by. Take the opportunity to remove one device, whether this is a television from one room or a social media app from your phone. It is important to take a mental note of how you feel without the device. There will always be withdrawal symptoms but if you realize that you aren’t subconsciously drafting Twitter posts in your head it will be a major benefit to your life!
