Presidential Penmanship Complete Program is $39.99 for either CD-ROM or e-book. Each level is also available individually for $9.99 in e-book format. We were given (free) a CD of the DN Style.
Presidential Penmanship is a program utilizing quotes and portions of speeches such as George Washington’s Rules of Civility, the Gettysburg Address, Inaugural Addresses and sections from the Declaration of Independence. The earlier grades use shorter selections in a manuscript or basic style. Cursive begins in the third grade with length progressing to the Gettysburg Address in sixth grade. The junior high level and the senior high level progress to paragraph length passages. These are all contained on one CD–the Complete Program. This is not a complete program in the sense of demonstrating letter formation, etc. Presidential Penmanship falls more under the description of copywork.
There are six handwriting styles available to choose from. Zeezok uses their own ‘names’ for them, but you should be able to identify your preferred style. These include AB Handwriting Style, BJ Handwriting Style, DN Handwriting Style, HWOT Handwriting Style, Italic Handwriting Style, ZB Handwriting Style. Examples are shown for each on the website.
In the levels we looked over, the program is intended for 36 weeks of use. The first grade level has 3 days of activity. The first day is written in ‘hollow letter style’ with the starting point marked. The second day is lightly printed for tracing. The third day is on your own. The second grade level starts similarly with the hollow letters. Days 2, 3, and 4 are the same tracing practice. The fifth day’s exercise gives you the blank lines to write on your own. The later levels do not have the same incremental steps as they should not be needed. I really like that the source and the space in which to copy it are on the same page. I think this is easier for the student, particularly at the younger ages. It is also easy to print the page (or two) for independent work, use in workboxes, etc.
