Apologia has been known in homeschool circles for great Biblical-based science curriculum. We are borrowing one of the elementary series from a local homeschool family. I can now say that I am a fan of this curriculum. What I am learning as I explore their site, they do so much more. With the purchase of Apologia by the Carman family many other great products are being added to their offerings. The science curriculum has not been forgotten. New additions are being written and introduced as well.

This book is one resource that is a ‘must-read’ for both new and seasoned homeschool families. Inside it’s 500+ pages you will find lists, tips and personal accounts of nearly every aspect of learning at home. all of this from a Godly perspective. In all decisions, prayer is first. In measuring success, goals in Christian faith are highest. Mrs. Bell’s writing style is so personal and easy to relate to. She comes across as a "been-there-done-that" mama that wants to help you make the best of your homeschool journey. I have read some homeschool books that were too authoritarian, this is not one of them!
At the front of the book is a guide to some icons used throughout the book. The icons can help you to quickly get to just the information you are needing, be that websites, personal anecdotes or buying information. There is also a lengthy resource guide found at the back. This alone is worth the price of the book.
The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling is great for the family seeking information on how to get started. The very first part of the book helps you to determine if you should even embark on this journey. I appreciate this very real look at the pros and cons. There is a list–‘Recipe for Success’–that spells out specific things needed for the best outcomes. I read this as what is ideal, not that you cannot homeschool without these things. It is good to see what things can have an impact and be prepared to work around it.
Before you experienced mamas start thinking this book isn’t for you, just see what else Mrs. Bell has in store. There are 10 parts to this book. The first is for determining if you should homeschool. The tenth is the previously mentioned resource guide. The remaining eight cover such topics as burnout, planning and curriculum. Computers, teens and assessment are included as well.
The Ultimate Guide to Homeschooling is one book that you will want to keep on your shelves. It will become like an old friend. It serves as a reference and encouragement. It is the book you will want to loan to your friend asking all of the questions.
