My Thoughts

 

My husband grew up in church, I did not.  I always called myself a Christian, but I didn’t have my own relationship with God.  It wasn’t until I was in my early 20s that I was saved.  My husband and I both have seen the heartache when children leave the church.  The numbers are rising in each generation.  We can only have so much influence in how we raise our children.  They must have their own relationship with the Lord, we cannot do it for them.  “I can’t carry it for you Master Frodo, but I can carry you”.  This is our role – encouraging and praying for them.  Lifting them up in prayer; trusting in God.

This is not to say that our role when our children aren’t following Jesus is to “just sit back” and pray.  We must be sure our interactions and words aren’t being detrimental – enabling.  Yes, we love, but at times that means making the hard decisions – doing battle.  That is where the value of “The Parent’s Battle Plan: Warfare Strategies to Win Back Your Prodigal” lies.  Laine Lawson Craft has been there – and back again.  There is so much practical advice as well as encouragement in its pages.  This is a book I am keeping in my arsenal.  I am not so proud to think we have raised our children ‘right’ and they won’t make bad choices.  Our six children are currently 22-13; the battle is just beginning.  God knows the outcome; the battle is His, but I have put on my armor and am ready to follow His command.
